Artist Antony Gormley invited Carmody Groarke to collaborate with Techniker and BDSP to deliver his concept for 'Blind Light'. The installation by Gormley is a sensory pavilion containing freezing cold, dense fog and fluorescent lights at four-times normal daylight. The challenge to the design team was to "dematerialize" the architectural envelope, therefore emphasising the experience of being immersed in fog.
Constructed from a frameless glass structure, the pavilion forms the centrepiece of the 'Blind Light' exhibition. The project is Gormley’s largest retrospective in London to date, and was delivered from initial briefing to completion within four months.
