The new 500m2 freestanding entrance pavilion and artist facilities provide improved functionality, amenities and first impressions for visitors to the client's new film studios, located four hours drive west of Sydney, Australia.
The entrance pavilion encloses the north facade of the three large converted wool processing sheds, each spanning 45 metres, applying a new inhabited canopy to the front of the existing buildings to offer new foyer, meeting and events spaces. It modulates the strong north sunlight as well as forming microclimates within a series of courtyards orientated around clusters of eucalyptus trees beside the existing buildings.
The canopy is constructed from suspended pigmented glass-reinforced concrete panels, both as a counterpoint to the existing industrial structures and a re-interpretation of their material and character.
