A series of small-scale interventions are proposed to rehabilitate the image and functionality of the existing nightclub. Recognising the embodied character and history of this former Irish dancehall, the design rejuvenates rather than rebuilds Electric Ballroom, itself a highlight of the music scene in north London.
The nature of the work is not to destabilise or threaten the existing character of the original converted dancehall or the subsequent rock club additions. Materials originally used such as black painted flock wallpaper and terrazzo have been reinterpreted and used in conjunction with coloured neon lighting internally and externally. More significant interventions include a new entrance and facade, VIP first floor bar and a DJ booth with performance stage.
