The project examines the form and figure of a new flagship department store within the new masterplan for the Eastgate retail quarter of Leeds. The approach to massing of the architecture is to break down a huge programmatic volume to the scale of the surrounding Victorian buildings.
The building relates internal public programme such as the café / restaurant to activity of the external public squares within the masterplan. The windows are framed with a load-bearing pigmented concrete façade which correspond to the surrounding colours and materials of the brick and terracotta merchant city.
