Carmody Groarke were invited by Carsten Holler and Fondazione Prada to collaborate on a unique temporary art installation within a Victorian warehouse in Islington, London.
Carsten Holler's concept for The Double Club was to provide a unique approach to entertainment and hospitality, as well as creating a dialogue between Congolese and Western contemporary music, lifestyle, arts and design.
The project consists of three spaces: Bar, Restaurant and Dance Club. Each space is divided decoratively and functionally into equally sized Western and Congolese, in accordance with the artist's concept of double identity as well as cultural coexistence.
Carmody Groarke worked closely with the artist, Carsten Holler, events promoter Jan Kennedy, restauranteur Mourad Mazouz and various artisans and designers, as a team to realise the project for its intended six-month lifespan.
