Time-Scale Exhibition
Artist Antony Gormley invited Carmody Groarke to collaborate with Techniker and BDSP in the delivery of his concept for "Blind Light" - a sensory pavilion containing nothing but freezing cold, dense fog and fluorescent light at four times normal daylight. The challenge to the design team was to "dematerialize" the architectural envelope, instead emphasising the experience of being immersed in the fog.
Constructed of a frameless glass structure the pavilion forms the centerpiece of the "Blind Light" exhibition, the artist's largest retrospective in London to date, and was delivered from initial briefing to completion within four months.
Client: Antony Gormley / The White Cube
Location: Hayward Gallery, London (and also at the Pinchuk Foundation, Kiev, Ukraine)
Completed: 2007
