Time-Scale Exhibition
Carmody Groarke won an invited competition to design the new exhibition: After Darwin: Contemporary Expressions within the Jerwood Gallery at the Natural History Museum. The content of the exhibition contains the work of seven internationally reputed artists, including Bill Viola, Jeremy Deller and Diana Thater, who have made specific new pieces to interpret the legacy of Darwin's seminal publication: "The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals".
Working closely with the Contemporary Art Curator, Carmody Groarke designed an exhibition to transform the Jerwood Gallery space with a dynamic sculptural installation that cuts the magnificent Jerwood Gallery diagonally into two halves. This challenges visitors' expectations of the gallery's scale and axis, as well as creating a framework for comparing the epic and intimate nature of each artists work. One half of the gallery will be dedicated to the panoramic projections of Diana Thaters "gorillagorillagorilla" videos and the other its arranged to present an enfilade of rooms, each specifically designed to the detailed spatial requirements of each artist's work or experience.
