A high quality residential fitout within a recent conversion of a building that was originally used for a part of the Chelsea School of Art campus. Whilst achieving very high floor to ceiling dimensions, the recent conversion broadened the floor-plates of the existing building resulting in lower daylight levels towards the middle of the spaces.
Reacting to this condition, the apartment is arranged around a very generous formal gallery space located in the centre of the plan which divides the residence into public and private living quarters, and exhibits the client's art collection.
This organising element, constructed of fumed oak panelling, is conceived as an object in an otherwise open plan room, accentuated by a consistent floor of a subtly richer-coloured fumed oak.
