A landlocked garden plot between two street-fronted Post Office buildings creates the site for a new mixed development including new retail, large lateral apartments and maisonettes. These are constructed within the refurbished Victorian buildings and a new horizontal linking building which is organised around two new ornamental gardens. The gardens provide light and air to the living spaces via floor to ceiling windows. Issues of privacy and views between residences are carefully controlled with deep vertical louvers.
